Shane T. Ahyong

Shane Timothy Ahyong ist ein australischer Zoologe, der sich vor allem mit marinen Wirbellosen befasst. Er ist seit 2010 Acting Chief Scientist am Australian Museum. Er gilt als internationale Kapazität in der Phylogenese und Systematik der Fangschrecken- und Zehnfußkrebse. Er beschrieb mehr als 300 neue Arten.[1]

Leben

Ahyong erwarb 2000 seinen Ph.D. an der University of New South Wales. Anschließend war er als Postdoc am Australian Museum tätig. 2006 ging er an das National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research in Neuseeland, bis er 2010 an das Australian Museum berufen wurde. Neben seiner Tätigkeit am Australian Museum hat er eine Professur an der School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences der University of New South Wales und ist Research Associate am National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC.[1]

Ahyong ist Mitglied des International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) und im Steering Committee des World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS). Er war zudem Präsident der The Crustacean Society.[1]
