Neil Collins

Neil Collins (* 31. Oktober 1948) ist ein irischer Politikwissenschaftler und Hochschullehrer.^[1]

Neil Collins studierte Politikwissenschaft und Wirtschaftswissenschaft an der University of Newcastle und erwarb hier 1972 den Bachelorgrad. Anschließend setzte er sein Studium an der University of Liverpool fort, wo er 1975 die Magisterprüfung im Fach Politikwissenschaft ablegte. Von 1975 bis 1980 war er anschließend dort als wissenschaftlicher Assistent sowie als „Research Fellow“ an der University of Birmingham (Institute of Local Government Studies) tätig, außerdem von 1976 bis 1981 als Gast Assistent an der City University of New York. Von 1980 bis 1985 arbeitete er als Tutor an der Open University, im Jahre 1984 hatte er außerdem am Trinity College Dublin die Doktorprüfung (Ph.D.) bei Basil Chubb abgelegt. Bis 1989 wirkte er als Dozent an der University of Liverpool. Von 1990 bis 1998 lehrte Collins an der University of Ulster und wurde dort 1997 zu Professor ernannt. In der Zeit von 1999 bis 2013 hatte er dann eine Professur am University College Cork inne. Im Ruhestand lehrt Collins an der Nasarbajew-Universität in Kasachstan.^[2] Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt vor allem beim politischen System Irlands und seiner öffentlichen Ordnung, außerdem beschäftigt er sich mit China und den Nachbarstaaten in Zentralasien. Sein Buch über „Irish politics today“ wurde mehrfach neu aufgelegt.

Im Jahre 2009 wurde Neil Collins Mitglied der britischen Academy of Social Sciences.
