Bis zur landesweiten Neuordnung der französischen Kantone im März 2015 gehörten zum Kanton Dampierre-sur-Salon die 29 Gemeinden Achey, Autet, Brotte-lès-Ray, Confracourt, Dampierre-sur-Salon, Delain, Denèvre, Fédry, Ferrières-lès-Ray, Fleurey-lès-Lavoncourt, Francourt, Grandecourt, Lavoncourt, Membrey, Montot, Mont-Saint-Léger, Ray-sur-Saône, Recologne, Renaucourt, Roche-et-Raucourt, Savoyeux, Theuley, Tincey-et-Pontrebeau, Vaite, Vanne, Vauconcourt-Nervezain, Vereux, Villers-Vaudey und Volon. Sein Zuschnitt entsprach einer Fläche von 251,18 km km2. Er besaß vor 2015 einen anderen INSEE-Code als heute, nämlich 7006.
