Gary C. Jacobson

Gary Charles Jacobson (* 7. Juli 1944 in Santa Ana) ist ein US-amerikanischer Politikwissenschaftler und Hochschullehrer.^[1]

Gary C. Jacobson studierte Politikwissenschaft zunächst an der Stanford University und legte dort 1966 sein Bachelorexamen ab. Anschließend wechselte er an die Yale University, wo er 1969 die Magisterprüfung absolvierte und 1972 zum Ph.D. promovierte. Nach kurzer Lehrtätigkeit an der University of California, Riverside (1968) unterrichtete er von 1970 bis 1979 Politikwissenschaft am Trinity College (Connecticut) und kurze Zeit (1973) an der Yale University. Von 1979 bis 2016 hatte Jacobson eine Professur an der University of California, San Diego inne, außerdem für kurze Zeit (1986/87) an der Stanford University. 2016 trat er in den Ruhestand. In seinen zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen beschäftigt sich vor allem mit den Parteien, der Wahlkampffinanzierung sowie den Kongress- bzw. Präsidentschaftswahlen in den USA.

Im Jahre 1991 wurde er Mitglied der American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
