Charles V. Willie

Charles Vert Willie (* 8. Oktober 1927 in Dallas; † 11. Januar 2022 in Brighton, Massachusetts) war ein US-amerikanischer Soziologe und Hochschullehrer.^[1]

Charles V. Willie studierte Sozialwissenschaften zunächst am Morehouse College, wo er 1948 den Bachelorgrad erwarb. 1949 erfolgte seine Magisterprüfung an der Clark Atlanta University. Von 1950 bis 1974 war er als Hochschullehrer an der Syracuse University tätig. Dort promovierte er 1957 zum Ph.D. und lehrte zuletzt als Professor für Soziologie. Von 1974 bis zum Eintritt in den Ruhestand 1999 hatte er eine Professur für Erziehungswissenschaft und Stadtsoziologie an der Harvard University inne, gab jedoch auch noch während seines Ruhestands Lehrveranstaltungen. Außer seiner Tätigkeit als Hochschullehrer wirkte Willie in verschiedenen staatlichen Gremien als Berater mit, außerdem in den Fachorganisationen der Soziologie in den USA und der Episkopalkirche der Vereinigten Staaten. Er erhielt mehrere Ehrendoktorwürden amerikanischer Universitäten.

In seinen zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen beschäftigte sich Willie vor allem mit den Rassenbeziehungen und -konflikten in den USA, den afro-amerikanischen Familien und ihren Schul- und Bildungsmöglichkeiten.

Seit seiner Studienzeit war Willie gut bekannt und befreundet mit Martin Luther King Jr.
